Dr. Giri Lal Gupta Institute of Public Health and Public Affairs (GLGIOPH) is an Institute of repute, its foundation stone was laid on September 12, 2007 in the Second Campus of the University of Lucknow. It is a state-of-art building, established in 2008 by generous contribution of our alumnus late Dr. Giri Lal Gupta who instituted twin Institutes through the Vinod Gupta Charitable Foundation (VCGF), New Delhi. The Institute has come forward to become a premier institution at the National level for training manpower in the field of Public Health.

GLGIOPH has been created to fulfill the following objectives:

  • To develop public health manpower by providing post-graduate training facilities;
  • To conduct researches relating to various Public health problems in the community;
  • To provide the support services in urban (slum) and rural areas;
  • To support and guide various programmes at National level; and
  • To act as a comprehensive, capacity building, training and awareness generation institution.

Currently, a prestigious Master of Public Health (MPH – 2 years/4 semesters) programme is being run at the Institute. Students who have passed out from here are well placed across the country. Also, a few are serving abroad in the Public Health sector.

Looking into the COVID-19 Pandemic it becomes necessary for the academic institutions to include the management of communicable disease into its main syllabi and therefore we have initiated a Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (1 year; 2 semesters) from this session (2020 onwards). This diploma course is recommended for professionals in health services, research units, or academic departments who want to improve global health. Taking this course will prepare students to apply epidemiological research methods to global health issues.

The Institute has up-to-date modern class rooms equipped with LCD projectors, a well developed computer lab and has faculty rooms and library. It also has an air-conditioned meeting room and an auditorium of capacity of 100 persons.

Many prominent figures in the field from diverse sections of the society such as the academicians, medical practitioners, government professionals as well as international fraternity are closely associated with the Institute. We together, are committed to take the Institute forward to make it a premier institution at the national level.

By next year the Institute will initiate few more courses to fulfill its objective.
