Institute of development Studies is a premier centre of development research and learning. Since its establishment in 1994 the centre has been in the midst of Development Research and policy transition. The Institute and the experts associated with it have worked with/ advised Government(s); World Bank; UN Organisations; USAID Associates. The Institute has developed or contributed to Human Development Report and Sustainable Development report etc. Currently the Institute has partnered with Government of UP and Department of Economics, LU to develop “Uttar Pradesh Sustainable Development Report”. Chief Secretary Government Of Uttar Pradesh has notified a Steering Committee for creating Uttar Pradesh sustainable Development report with Prof Arvind Mohan, Director IDS as convenor. The Steering Committee is chaired by Prof K V Raju, Economic Advisor to Honourable Chief Minister of UP and has Vice Chancellor, University of Lucknow as Honourable Member. Twenty Two Experts from across the country are partnering with the institute to develop this prestigious document which is likely to feed into policy intervention.

Development studies, encompass a wide spectrum of disciplines, and hence this inter-disciplinary institute provides a natural habitat for the same. The Institute is located in the heart of historic city of Lucknow. Institute is also a centre excellence for dissemination of knowledge. Institute runs a Post Graduate Program on Business Economics. This is a blend of Management and Development Studies. This is what makes the program unique. The exceptional relationship that the Institute enjoys with industry organisations like CII, PHD Chamber of Commerce; FICCI; IIA and International Organisations like World Bank; UN Organisations and Government ensures an unparalleled exposure. Presence of eminent Adjunct Faculty like Former Chief Secretary Uttar Pradesh Sri Alok Ranjan only adds to the flavour. It may further be noted that the Institute is getting regular special financial assistance in terms of grants from state government and has also has received occasional development grants from the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
