• The Lucknow University Social Work Alumni Association was formed under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 in January 1961 under the Parsidentship of Prof. Saiyid Zafar Hasan, the then Head of the Composite Department of Sociology and Social Work. Right from its inception, the Association has been advocating the cause of social work education and its alumni. It has submitted a large number of memoranda to the Central and State Government for the formation of independent directorates of social welfare service at the State-level; appointment of professionally qualified and trained social work graduates and post-graduates on all positions requiring social work skills; and inclusion of social work as one of the subjects for central and state-level civil services examinations.
• The Association, from the very first year of its existence, started publishing a Journal, then named as "Social Work Bulletin" on the quarterly basis. Later, the nomenclature of the Journal was changed from Social Work Bulletin to Lucknow University Journal of Social Work. Realizing the expanding horizons of social work teaching and practice and bearing in mind the large number of scholarly atricles from other social science academics across the country, the name of the Journal was again changed. Now it is "Contemporary Social Work" which is published bi-yearly.
• The Association has been holding the meeting of the Alumni to discuss matters - considered relevant for the growth of social work profession. The Association has been actively cooperating and collaborating with the functions and activities of the Department. The association's contribution to the organization of seminars, conferences, workshops, etc., by the Department has been praiseworthy.
• The Association proposes to bring out a comprehensive directory of the alumni (alongwith their complete addresses) is the Golden Jubilee Year.
