GFATM-Round-7 (Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, H.Q. Geneva) SAKSHAM  Project (2008-2015) Counseling Component entitled ‘To enhance the institutional capacities of key counselor training institutes to undertake capacity building and counseling supervision for counsellors’

GFATM was funding health related projects / activities in more than 136 countries all over the world. In India the project was known as Saksham. The overall goal of ‘Saksham’ was to strengthen the national health system by building the capacity of health functionaries in the field of HIV counseling to achieve and better meet the long-term goals of the National AIDS Control Programme for HIV prevention, care and treatment.  
Department of Psychology was one of the six Sub Recipients of GFATM with TISS Bombay being the principal recipient.  The Faculty In-charge for the Saksham Project at Lucknow University was Prof. Archana Shukla. The project duration was from 2008-2015. Under GFATM – Round7, 40 Higher Learning Institutes and universities collaborated with 25 SACS (State AIDS control society) and NACO (National AIDS control organization) for HIV/AIDS counseling, counseling supervision and related issues.

DRS

The UGC recognized the outstanding performance of the Department by awarding DRS Phase I under UGC SAP in 1996 for research on Stress and social support; DRS Phase II in 2001 for research on Stress and social relations and DRS Phase III in 2007. The focus of the DRS- Phase III was on Positive Psychology. The grant for third phase was not released due to paucity of hands in the department.

Centre of Excellence

The department was recognized as Center of Excellence by the Department of Higher Education, U.P. in 2012 for Promoting Wellbeing among Elderly: An Indian Perspective (Principal Investigator: Prof. P.C. Mishra). The project is near completion.

Student Counselling Cell

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made it mandatory for all the higher education institutions to have broad based Student Counselling System in place for effective redressal of problems and challenges faced by students. In pursuance to the letter from UGC to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor in this regard, a Counselling Cellwas established in the department of Psychology, University of Lucknow, Lucknow on 21st July 2016.

Awards

Dr. Amreen Fatima was awarded Guru Devi Gold Medal for Best Research in Humanities for the year 2014-15.

Ms. Nehashree Srivastava was awarded Best Woman Student of LU (Governor’s Medal- Silver) in 2008 and Dr. Chakravarty Gold Medal (Governor’s Medal) for being the most helpful student in social life in 2009. 

Ms. Swati Mishra was awarded Chancellor’s Bronze medal for being the best student in the final year of bachelor’s degree course in 2006.

Happy Thinking Laboratory

Happy Thinking Laboratory for Psychospiritual development of students of University of Lucknow was virtually inaugurated on 21st November 2020 by Hon'ble Governor Ms Anandiben Patel on the occasion of Convocation ceremony of University of Lucknow. This laboratory comprises of Spiritual library,Wisdom hall, Research room, Silence room and a Green zone. Memmorandom of Understanding was made between Brahma Kumaris, Mount Abu, Rajasthan and Heartfulness Education Trust,  Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and University of Lucknow for facilitating this laboratory. 

112 UP Police

Department of Psychology signed an MOU with 112 UP police for online counselling of police personnels during the COVID phase (2020-2021). Dr. Archana Shukla was the coordinator of the program.
