The admissions in M.Sc. programme in Food Processing and Food Technology were initiated in academic session 2015-16. The course was started with meager financial assistance from grant, Lucknow University received under RUSA programme. The University had applied to U.P state government for funds to establish Institute of Food Processing and Technology. The funds were received at the end of financial year 2016-17. Hence, the institute was created in 2017 under the aegis of ONGC Centre for Advanced Studies, situated in ONGC building at Lucknow University. The M.Sc. programme became a part of the institute since its establishment.

Dr. (Prof.) Deepak Chandra took over the charge of Director/ Coordinator of the institute in 2017 and continuing till date. The institute has made significant progress in terms of infrastructure and facilities since 2017.

Aims & Objectives

Food Technology is future technology for betterment of human health and one of the thrust areas in modern science. Food industry has shown significant growth in the country in last few years. There is a requirement of trained manpower having sound knowledge of the subject and capable of facing challenges in the field of food technology. Keeping this in view Lucknow University has started this M.Sc. programme to produce trained and competitive manpower in this upcoming field.

Another major objective of establishing this institution and running this course in the university is to develop a high standard food testing lab (one of the priority areas of Govt. of India). The lab will be established following the NABL and FSSAI norms.

M.Sc. programme is a four semester programme under Self Financing Scheme (SFS) with a total number of seats 30. The course content meets the requirement of food industry and extensive theory and practical trainings are given to the students. In the fourth semester, it is mandatory for the students to go for project work/ industrial training for a period of six months.
